How do I check my email through a client such as Outlook or Thunderbird?

Each client will have a different method of configuring email. Enter the account modification portion of your client (in Outlook this is Tools -> Email Accounts), and refer to this Outlook screenshot as an example. Be sure to enter your full email address, all lower-case in the user name field (username@domain), as shown. Also, instead of entering "mail.synware.com" be sure to use mail.[your domain]

Additionally, depending on your service provider, you may have to make one additional change before you can send mail. If you find you have problems sending mail, try changing your outgoing mail server port to 587. In Outlook, you can do this by clicking on "More Settings" and clicking on the "Advanced" tab. The following screenshot demonstrates this setting.

  • When prompted for a user name, be sure to use your full email address, all lower-case (username@domain)
  • Click login.
  • --or--
  • To use a different webmail client, browse to the email selector at http://[domain]/webemail
  • When prompted for a user name, be sure to use your full email address, all lower-case (username@domain)
  • Choose the webmail client you would like to use.

Where does mail addressed to a non-existent email address go?
This mail by default will go to the username you were assigned when signing up @[domain]. If you do not want the mail to go this account, you may change this via:
  • Browse to cpanel at http://[domain]/cpanel
  • Under "E-Mail" click on "Default Address"
You may change the default email address, or set the email to be discarded. These instructions appear on screen.

My Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocks SMTP port 25 (for outgoing mail) except to it's servers. I want to use the mail servers assigned to my account, how do I do this?

We are aware some ISPs do this, so we have set SMTP to run on port 587 as well as 25. In your mail client account configuration, change the outgoing mail server (SMTP) port to 587.
